Things you've only heard live
ADVICE FOR THE DROPOUT
when you're anxious for improvement
just seek a new endorsement
rejuvenate your outlook
and make those sales cook
the absence of a conscience
can sometimes be a benefit
not held back by the impact
the outcome is exact
rejoices
you tap into your instinct
there's bound to be enjoyment
but perhaps with some embarrassment
all's fair in the end
Ethnic Pants (2008)
POLYNESIA
we swam around Mele while
the damsel fish were not amused
i stubbed my toe on coral crater
then we washed on over to
where the natives wore only blue
they seemed a bit bizarre and cult-like
and they tried to get us to stay
we refused and they blocked our way
then showed us the best time of our lives
to each of us went seven girls
aged 16 to 41
and all the mango juice we could ask for
every sunset there was a feast
consisting of some unique island beast
that persisted no matter how many they slaughtered
it was strange, this beast was grotesque
with horns all over its head
but i'll tell you, the taste was outta sight
MSG
there is something in the air out east
that feeds the brain with a stain of electrified grease
and manipulates the earnings of the people in the places
so the fossils are accused of no leaving traces
a forward-based nation of thirsty rabid muppets
taking a break for their tea and crumpets
a song sung so straight from a land's long lost love
I'm hear to say to all, "welcome to the club"
AFTER HOURS PARTY CRASHER
waiting atop the mansion
watchin' the town lights dancin'
the night air hummin' like a downed power line
the headlights slip up the driveway
1:50 a.m. Friday
drunken laughter splits the night in two
through the kitchen into
a palatial living room
the party ain't over
won't be sleepin' for awhile
the house shakes from bombastic laughter
an after hours party crasher
waits with forbearance soaking in the sounds
the fireplace want of kindle
the conversations dwindle
bayonet glistens in the wan moonlight
through the window into
a colossal slumber room
the party is over
time to sleep eternally
WRAPPED 'ROUND A POLAR BEAR
blue-collared greens
taped to my plate
serving the fiend in me
high voltage screams
ripped from the throat
of vocal abilities
and all the stands are set to fall
and all the doors are locked
so when we find out what we want
we know we can't be stopped
we'll trap them in their comfort zone
and surf them into waves
and that will be the end of it
and all the world is saved
buffoonish schemes surprise to succeed
ignorance is the key
blissful lips of crimson tie-dye
wrapped 'round a polar bear
touching on everything but truth (I'm charmed by the absurd)
squelching the innocence of youth (I was greatly misinformed)
Clamour Amore (2008)
ROBOT COLONY
an open field deprived of rain
dry and brown as old snow
begging for either water or flame
let it burn or let it grow
just then... a motor over head
there was... an engine tumbling
the groundskeeper arrived 'round 6
determined to restore the field
but what he saw as he approached
well, his eyes he had to shield
he saw... a robot colony
they had... tore it all to bits
there was nothing left
PRESERVED GREY
we can't focus on our mission
we're just fishin' round town for some purses of Dolyn
preserved grey is so much more soothing
and we're cruisin' cross the icy surface, slurpin' up the sounds
of a country so vast
in a car so warm
in a season so frozen
in a city so worn
but he's gone dancin' on the levee
and I'm kickin' on back to the West Java groove
we've found another way to pass time
it'll have to last us till something better comes along
in a country so vast
in a car so warm
in a friendship so seasoned
in a city so worn
SELLING TOO MUCH
dame, you know you're selling to much of me
now there's nothing left for us to be
and I tried to tell you 800 times
you can't do that if you wanna be mine
now there's others waiting in line to sign
buy it back, girl, while you still can
while there's still a chance i'll be your man
and I just don't get why you flaunt me around
in front of every skirt in this rock 'n' roll town
if she's a catch then she might just be bound to sign
RENTAL CAR
good evening
i'd like 80 castlewall
here is the Neon
just load them all
(that's too much weight, sir!)
we'll fit them in here
(your car will break, sir!)
well, I don't care
see, they all fit
so what if it scrapes the road?
cuz you see, son
there's somethin' I ain't told
it's a rental
(sir, that's funny!)
I'm not that mental
(thanks for your money!)
CONSARNIT TO SMITHEREENS
possessions of mine that never get moved
and sit haunting me in my Harry Potter room
and I should just up and toss 'em all away
cuz none of it is me
none of it
but that's not true, you know what they say
you are what you throw away
consarnit to smithereens
I'm so sick of stuff
time comes to move, there's no time for play
when time comes to money then everything's okay
and 'bout every year I gotta take what I own
and put it in a new place that I call my home
but none of it is me
CENTRAL SHI'ITE PARKING
even cops at the very root provide a needed service
whereas you only exist to feed yourself
you take and take and take and never give anything back
you're not even man enough to be part of our city
THE CRAWLER
from the hole he dug creeps a symphony
of life which will always be the crawler
birds awaken to the urge to perch then lurch
and snag themselves a tasty little crawler
he's been crawling for a long time
the nickels in his pockets have fallen out
